Club Level Series: The Polynesian Resort

One of the most loved club levels is in the most loved resort The Polynesian Resort. So, after leaving the flagship Grand Floridian Club Level last time, just hop on the monorail and go a few stops down to the Poly. Before you go, you should receive a call or email from their Itinerary Planning Office but better just to let your travel agent handle the planning (maybe biased but contrary to popular opinion these people do not hoard BOG ADRs and can not do more than check once a day for cancellation – so better work with a great TA and get those ADRs!)

After you check-in (at your private concierge check-in desk) and check out your slightly upgraded club room. I say slightly because it is basically a few extra nice amenities like robes and turn down service (same as the other club level resorts). You will be either in a suite or standard room either in Tonga or Hawaii buildings, and after putting your once over on your room head to the favorite concierge lounge The King Kamehameha Club.

Why is The King Kamehameha Club the typical favorite? Well first let’s start with the view. Need I say more?

Poly view

So, stop by to grab a snack before heading out to a theme park or relax and read a book and snack all day looking out the beautiful window and soaking in that view. Whatever you decide, you will love it.

Poly CrackersSo, another reason The King Kamehameha Club is a favorite is their menu. It just fits the bill and always feels more generous. You can make a meal or a heavy snack here for breakfast and even for dinner. You can also get quite a few different drinks in you during the evening, head out for fireworks (or watch from the Poly beach) come back to the concierge lounge for dessert and cognac. All that is included in your fantastic club level room at the Poly resort.

Oh, and what else is there to love about The King Kamehameha Club? Unlimited POG JuicePOG juice and if you are not familiar with it – run to the Poly and try it because you will love it. It is like a dole whip, if you do not love it, there is something crazy wrong with you!

If you want to know the menu they do print one out each week and you can see it has a wide variety of amazing sounding snacks and appetizers from sushi to luau ribs.

So, do I recommend Poly’s Club Level? YES! Check it out for yourself and let me know if you loved it too?

Kona Cafe Breakfast Review

As a big fan of the Polynesian resort, I’ll look for any excuse to visit when I’m not staying there. During my last trip, my excuse was Kona Cafe for breakfast, prior to a day at Typhoon Lagoon! I’d heard a lot of good things about Kona, but had always opted for ‘Ohana, another favorite for breakfast at the Poly. Being that this trip was just my husband and I, and he’s not really ‘into’ character meals we decided to hit up Kona instead.

The menu at Kona grabbed my attention right away. I’m not a huge breakfast person but there were so many things that I could see myself ordering. It was hard having so many delicious options to choose from.

The first part of our order, though, was a no brainer. The first thing that had caught my husband’s eye on the menu was the 100% Kona Coffee French Press Pot. As a coffee aficionado he was very excited to see a French Press option on the menu, since this is how he makes his coffee at home, and the coffee options at Disney World had always underwhelmed him. A little pricey at $7.99 per pot (2 cups) he decided it was a worthwhile splurge.

As for myself, I chose the famous Lilikoi juice. Lilikoi juice is the same as POG juice at ‘Ohana and Jungle Juice at Tusker House: a mix of Orange, Passion Fruit and Guava juices and it is SO yummy! If you’ve never tried it I suggest a visit to one of the places on the list and ordering for yourself OR, book a club level concierge room at the Polynesian resort, where POG juice is available on tap for guests 24/7!  😉

On to the meal! While the most popular entree at Kona Cafe is Tonga Toast, it did not appeal to either my husband or myself. I went for the Macadamia-Pineapple Pancakes. These pancakes have Macadamia Nut Butter, Pineapple Sauce, and your choice of Ham, Bacon, or Sausage. I went for the bacon. My husband chose the Steak and Eggs: A Char-grilled New York Strip Steak served with Two Eggs, Home-fried Potatoes, and a Biscuit. The pancakes were very good! I’m not a huge fan of macadamia nuts but they worked really well in the butter and with the pineapple topping. The serving size was very large, I didn’t end up being able to finish the pancakes even though I wanted to. My husband enjoyed his steak and eggs but was less impressed overall than I was. He said he still couldn’t complain because he was getting steak for breakfast, but that he might choose something different the next time we dine at Kona. It also didn’t stop him from cleaning his plate!

Overall we really enjoyed our visit to Kona Cafe and would definitely make a repeat visit in the future, especially if we were staying at the Polynesian. I’d also consider trying Kona for lunch or dinner as their menu for those meals looks very appealing!

Have you dined at Kona before? What did you think?

Once seated your server will immediately offer you some P.O.G. juice, which is a pineapple, orange, guava juice. Other juices, coffee, tea and soft drinks are available as well. IMG_5067

Once you have enjoyed your fruit and breads, a skillet is brought to the table and your server will bring fresh Mickey waffles as well.
IMG_9639I have Celiac’s disease and cannot eat gluten. For those with allergies, the chef will bring out a skillet with allergy-safe food. The gluten-free skillet came with eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and Mickey waffles and was delivered to the table from the chef after he or she had consulted with me. The gluten-free Mickey waffles here are always well cooked and taste great.

Characters
At this meal you will meet Mickey, Pluto, Lilo, and Stitch. We have always had fabulous interaction here. Stitch is always a blast and during one visit Lilo and Mickey both played with Anthony’s car with him.

In addition to the characters coming to your table, there is also a parade all around the restaurant to the song Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride. All of the kids are given musical instruments and are invited to join in on the parade with the characters.

We have come to ‘Ohana each and every trip ever since my son was born. The food is always incredible and the character interaction unforgettable. If you haven’t discovered this hidden gem yet, please give it a try on your next visit!
