Podcast Episode 121: Interview with Disney Insiders – RJ and Suzanne Ogren

Our listeners must have been really good this year because we’ve got an amazing gift for you!  This week, we talked to RJ and Suzanne Ogren, a wonderful couple who used to work as Cast Members at Walt Disney World!  RJ was an artist that worked on such classic attractions as Peter Pan’s Flight and The Haunted Mansion, while Suzanne was friends with many characters but mostly Sleepy the Dwarf!  They have some incredible stories to tell about their time working at Magic Kingdom and you don’t want to miss it!

After you’ve heard their stories here, there are lots of places for you to find these amazing people and learn more about their lives at Disney  – I highly recommend their book, “Together In The Dream”, available at Amazon.com.

You can find more of RJ’s artwork at his website, RJOgren.com

New Disney Movies for 2016 and Beyond!

maxresdefault

Disney has always a great movie line-up on the horizon and 2016 and 2017 are already shaping up to be perhaps the best two year’s ever. Some people are going to disagree because Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released in 2015 but let’s put that aside, for now, and look to the future (as only Star Wars would want you too!) In addition, there is more Star Wars to come so that helps all your Star Wars fans to look forward in anticipation.

  • The Finest Hours (Walt Disney Pictures) – Jan. 29, 2016
  • Zootopia (Walt Disney Animation Studios) – March 4, 2016
  • The Jungle Book (Walt Disney Pictures) – April 15, 2016
  • Captain America: Civil War (Marvel) – May 6, 2016
  • Alice: Through the Looking Glass (Walt Disney Pictures) – May 27, 2016
  • Finding Dory (Pixar) – June 17, 2016
  • The BFG (Walt Disney Pictures) – July 1, 2016
  • Pete’s Dragon (Walt Disney Pictures) – Aug. 12, 2016
  • Doctor Strange (Marvel) – Nov. 4, 2016
  • Moana (Walt Disney Animation Studios) – Nov. 23, 2016
  • Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One (Lucasfilm) – Dec. 16, 2016
  • Beauty and the Beast (Walt Disney Pictures) – March 17, 2017
  • Ghost in the Shell (DreamWorks) – April 14, 2017
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Marvel) – May 5, 2017
  • Star Wars: Episode VIII (Lucasfilm) – May 26, 2017
  • Toy Story 4 (Pixar) – June 16, 2017
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Walt Disney Pictures) – July 17, 2017

Here is my top 5 list of Disney films I personally am looking forward to in 2016 and 2017:

1. Finding Dory I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this movie and I am so

happy they have finally made it happen. I am ready to laugh and be happy with Nemo and Dory again. Want to check out the trailer? Click Here.

2. Beauty and the Beast – This is a live action fantasy, musical film that stars Emma Watson (who does not love Hermione) as Belle and Ewan McGregor as Lumiere. This is done in a similar manner as Cinderella which was released in 2015.

3. Moana – Another princess movie! There can never be enough Disney princesses and Moana is joining the ranks. Want to see the voice of Moana being told she got the part? Cute youtube video Click here!

4. The Jungle Book – Another live action coming out in Spring of 2016 and has quite _1439777280the cast list including Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Bill Murray, Christopher Walken and Ben Kingsley to name a few. Neel Sethi who plays Mowgli and is a cutey! Want to see more info and a teaser then Click Here.

5. Alice: Through the Looking Glass – The sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in
Wonderland is coming soon. My favorite Mad Hatter is back and Johnny Depp I know will do the part justice. This is another live action movie and if anything the cinematography will be amazing.

So this is my Top 5 list and I would love to hear your thoughts and what you are looking forward to seeing?

A Perfectly Pirate Day at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

With the long-awaited reopening of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom I started thinking about all the fun stuff a pirate fan can do there! If you’re into pirates here is how you can enjoy a perfectly pirate day.

First up you’ll need to dress the part! At Pirate’s League you’ll undergo a pirate makeover including face paint, an earring, an eyepatch, bandana, sword and more! You’ll also be given an official pirate name and instruction on how to talk (and walk!) like a pirate. Unlike the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Pirate’s League welcomes adult guests as well as children over the age of 3. Packages range from $34.95 to $79.95.

Next up (and maybe most importantly!) is a visit to the newly refurbished Pirate’s of the Caribbean ride. This quintessential pirate experience spawned a movie series and is a must do for any pirate fan. In fact, the 5th film in this franchise is due in 2017. Yo ho, Yo ho!

For a fun interactive pirate experience you should try A Pirate’s Adventure ~ Treasures of the Seven Seas. This treasure hunt features five different quests (with 3-5 stops on each quest) and you can choose to do just one, all five or any number in between. You’ll follow a paper map to lead you to a treasure, and if you find 5 you’ll be welcomed in to Captain Jack’s crew! Each quest takes about 15 minutes and can be done at your leisure. A Pirate’s Adventure is a lot of fun, and a nice change of pace from the regular rides. A must do!

Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial is a show that features volunteers who would like to learn the art of sword fighting and other pirate-y arts. Be sure to check the Times Guide so you don’t miss your opportunity! Catch a video of the performance here on YouTube.

Want to catch a glimpse of another famous pirate? Take a ride on Peter Pan’s Flight where you’ll see Captain Hook in all his glory!

A great way to cap off your pirate filled day is actually located just outside the Magic Kingdom on the Seven Seas Lagoon. Departing from the Contemporary Resort is a very special Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage featuring a visit from Captain Hook and Smee. The cost is $69 for adults and $41 for children (at time of this blog’s publication) and features drinks and snacks on this cruise navigated by your pirate captain Patch. Featuring tall tales and sea shanties your journey will be capped off with a view of the Wishes fireworks show that is rivaled by little else. Weather permitting you’ll also be able to see the Electrical Water Pageant. The voyage is topped off by a visit from a special secret guest. What a way to end your perfectly pirate day!

Is this just not enough pirate for you? Well, the true pirate super fans might consider staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort which features fully pirate themed rooms. Contact your Travel Agent for more info
