December Holidays in Walt Disney World!

One of my favorite times of year is Christmas…Obviously, I am not alone in that emotion. I love it for many reasons – one is the giddy and happy that most people seem to have, celebrating with friends and family, and celebrating my birthday. I am one of the lucky ones born during the Christmas holidays (December 17 – plenty of shopping days left!)  If I am really lucky I get to celebrate this special time of year for a few days in Walt Disney World.

My husband and I went the first or second week in December for 4 years straight a few years back and it was hands down the best time of year for us to go! The weather was great (though we did have to buy sweatshirts the first year for the evening time chill), the crowds were low and the decorations were so beautiful. Unfortunately because of some major relocating several times over the past few years it has made our yearly trips harder because now we do travel to see family at Thanksgiving and Christmas so to throw a third trip in a short period of time – well it is not always easy.

So last year, we all compromised and spent Thanksgiving at Disney and lucky me the holiday decorations were in full swing! I toured all the resorts and saw all the beautiful carousels and chocolate houses. I ate a gingerbread cookie in a gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian. I walked down Main Street USA and saw Christmas Trees and holiday decorations all around me and perhaps missed a little of the normal Thanksgiving cheer but got loads of yuletide cheer (and in my book yuletide cheer wins!)

There are so many exciting things to do during the holidays and one of the main attractions for many people is the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. It is similar in theory to the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party but I think obviously it is themed for Christmas. There is fake snow on Main Street and special parades and Santa. They also serve cookies and hot chocolate…the year I first went it was raining…hard. So, we got to enjoy riding Buzz Lightyear 10 times without waiting but otherwise nothing else exciting happened.  Disney did us right though and as we left the park they gave us instructions on how to get a refund. So, made the decision whether to go the next year very easy and it was good times.

One of the reasons I am picking now to write this post is once again the holidays are coming and yet, we still live far away and will be traveling Thanksgiving and Christmas so normally we would have to pass on Disney in December. Well, this year is different…this year my December birthday is a big one! I am turning 40 and when I turn 40 I want to be on Main Street USA with fake snow and Santa! So, look out to my Disney travelers I am checking my list of who has been naughty and nice! Here is to hoping it can work out! Stay tuned…
